The Pensacola Early Music Consort was established by the Church's Minister of Music, Charles Tucker in 1994 with a goal of establishing a supportive environment for people interested in learning and playing recorders and early music instruments. The Consort has grown over the last 28 years, initially starting with a few members and now numbers fourteen people, who meet for two hours twice a week to play together. The group includes people from many walks of life, some experienced musicians and some with no prior experience but a love for music. They all share a common interest in performing and learning about music.
Music presented is from the Renaissance, Baroque, Celtic and modern periods. Anchoring the ensemble is a Contrabass recorder which stands six foot six inches tall. Gemshorns, Krummhorns and early string instruments will be presented. New instruments are always being added.
The Consort is committed to music education, having performed in elementary, middle and high schools, Coastal Alabama Community College and the University of West Florida to educate about early music instruments. The Consort conducts occasional concerts at Church of the Advent and other at other churches, weddings, and musical festivals. Charles Tucker initiated two classes at the University of West Florida’s Leisure Learning program for people over the age of 50 years. The first is a beginner’s class for learning the basics of soprano, alto, tenor and bass recorders and the second class is a group to play simple consort music. This has been a good source for future Consort members. If you are interested in joining please contact Charles Tucker at the Church of the Advent.
